Reflections: When could I have chosen a different path?

Well, this was a question that my DAYONE journal posed to me on Tuesday, June 18, 2024. Interestingly, I could have chosen a different path if I had been admitted to study law at the Uni. Law was a profession that I liked and admired, and my father also loved it. He was more or less like a local lawyer. Although he was not formally educated, people would bring their cases and matters to him for advice, guidance, resolution, and judgment. He was also a fan of taking people to court when there was non-compliance or trespassing. So, that’s my background in law.

I could have chosen that path, but destiny and fate had different plans. I tried three times to get into law, but as I mentioned, destiny had other ideas for me.

Interestingly, law was my first choice, and the one I studied, mass communication, was my second choice. I tried the first time and did the entire examination again. I thought my O-Level at some point wasn’t good enough, so I improved it and tried again. But then, at that point in time, the entire system was sort of shut down for law. No law students were admitted, and we all moved to communications. So, that’s how it happened.

I could have chosen a different path if I had my way with law. But the thing is that both professions achieve the same end: giving voice to the people, fighting for people’s rights, and addressing societal ills. They both contribute to making our society better. Well, that’s it for what I could have chosen then. I have become better off with the path I chose, or rather, the path that destiny chose for me, I would say. And things are getting better. I became a teacher in the same sector and a researcher in the same area. So, things are going well.

But now, technology is playing a role, and I’m getting into writing, reading, and doing more tech-related stuff. I wonder how this is playing into my bigger goal. But one thing I know too well is that everything happens for a reason. They are all build-ups. We don’t just go through a process for the sake of it; we go through a process because it will come together to make better sense much later. So, I’m looking forward to how it’s all going to relate and correlate.

In Summary:

1. Embrace the Journey: Be open to how your path unfolds and learn from every experience.

2. Value Diverse Experiences: Recognize the interconnectedness of different skills and knowledge.

3. Trust the Process: Have faith in the timing of your life’s events and stay patient.

By integrating these lessons into our daily lives, we can navigate our personal and professional journeys with greater resilience, adaptability, and optimism.
