I Ditched My Car for a Bicycle: A Refreshing Return to Cycling

Wednesday, 19 June, 2024 — Today was a different day, as I decided to get back to cycling after a couple of months’ break. Instead of driving, I left the car at home and went cycling. Not only did I cycle, but I also vlogged the experience using some new gadgets that help me film while riding. You’ll find the vlog linked below or embedded somewhere in this post. Feel free to watch and enjoy the journey—I tried to keep it concise, but wanted to document the experience thoroughly.

Before setting off, I prepared my bike and tested my recording devices. I was enthusiastic about the ride, and my wife was quite happy to see me back on the bike. Coincidentally, she mentioned she had been thinking about it the day before. It was a bit stressful and came with some pain, as it had been a while since I last cycled, but I felt the strain in my legs. Cycling requires endurance, and I was intentional about it because I noticed I was gaining weight. Beyond just shedding weight, I wanted to fit into my clothes without having to change my wardrobe.

I plan to cycle more regularly and might even join some collective cycling events with children from my church and another father who is also a cyclist. After the ride, I felt so much energy. Exercise not only tires you out but also renews your strength and triggers refreshing hormones. This boost helped me have an exciting and productive day at work, finishing my tasks early. I cycled back home, continuing to record the experience.

It was quite an interesting day. If you want to see more, you can click this link to watch on YouTube or watch it directly on this blog.

Here are some key takeaways from today’s experience:

1. Be Intentional About Health: Prioritising physical fitness and mental health is crucial. Activities like cycling can help you stay fit and refresh your mind.
2. Embrace Endurance: Activities that require endurance, such as cycling, can be challenging but are rewarding in the long run. They help you build stamina and resilience.
3. Document Your Journey: Keeping a record of your experiences, whether through vlogging or journaling, can be motivating and help you track your progress.
