A Reflective Week’s End: Cherishing Family and Embracing Change

Spread the love

Friday, 19th July 2024 — As the week draws to a close, I’ve decided to take some time to wind down and reflect on the past few days. In an effort to change my environment, I opted to visit a neighbouring town where we have family. I spent time with ‘grandma and grandpa’—the Olaleyes, who are looking after us here in the UK. This visit provided significant relief in terms of childcare, as ‘Grandma’ Mummy Sarah could assist with the baby while Tiola played with his friend Gbemmy, who also frequents the house.

The family we visited has been a tremendous blessing, and I took this opportunity to acknowledge and thank them for their love, effort, and hospitality. It was a relaxing day, made even better when I picked up my wife from the train station and we returned together. I enjoyed all my meals there, including a delicious brunch and dinner featuring roasted mackerel fish and dodo. This visit eased me into the weekend gently.

Additionally, I spent some time working on my garden, a chore I’ve been dedicated to for weeks now, aiming to maintain it better than ever before. Reflecting on the week, I am immensely grateful despite the new and challenging routine. As mentioned in my earlier posts, I’ve come to appreciate my wife more deeply for all she does, something I hadn’t fully realised before. It’s important to value and respect the efforts of others, especially if you haven’t experienced their roles yourself.

I also wanted to mention that I unscrewed my living room TV, managed to pull out the module, and shipped it to the micro tech company. To my surprise, the module was fixed within an hour and has been sent back and is now working perfectly after coupling the components back. We have lived without a working TV for 18 months and now, with just a bit of inspiration and information, our ‘TVlessness’ era is over. Electronics in the UK can be very expensive and difficult to repair, not to mention the challenges of disposal. Often, you have to book a collection and sometimes even pay for rubbish removal. Imagine how every home pays for water that comes in and also pays for the waste water. However, my curiosity paid off, and I managed to fix it myself with minimal costs. Great, isn’t it? So, keep trying new things!

This week has been a learning experience, and although it marks the beginning of a new routine for us, we are hopeful and trust in God for the best. As we move forward, we will continue to adapt, evolve, and embrace each new challenge. So, remember: keep adapting, keep learning, and keep evolving.

Top 3 Lessons Learned:

1. Appreciate and respect the efforts of others, especially if you haven’t experienced their roles yourself.

2. Take time to reflect and acknowledge the blessings and support from those around you.

3. Stay curious and keep trying new things; you might find solutions to problems that seem expensive or difficult.
